Lars Brandt Stisen

Lars Brandt Stisen

I am a Scandinavian artist based in Scotland UK. I use photography, illustration and words as well as computer programming and electronics in my work.

As commercial photographer I was running studios in Berlin Germany and in Aarhus Denmark for a decade while serving international clients in advertising.
I decided to change direction in 2016 and focus on personal work as an artist in Scotland.

I have a background as software engineer and IT entrepreneur, with an early past in music and theatre.

I have chosen exile in the Highlands where the air is steeped in myth and legend...

Background

I come from a family with a tradition in arts and crafts and grew up in the creative atmosphere of my mother's workshop in Aarhus Denmark.
As a master bookbinder and artist my mother Helle Stisen has exhibited and sold her work around the world, from 5th Avenue in New York to The Danish house on Champs-Élysées in Paris, while counting the Danish Royal Family among her clients.

My mother is the daughter of renowned master bookbinder Jens E. Hansen and my great-grandfather was the Scandinavian furniture designer Albert Hansen. My father is a former school teacher who became an entrepreneur in the Kartonage industry. Our family has the honour of being included in Kraks Blå Bog (Krak's Blue Book) –a listing of people who have excelled through their profession and had an influence on Danish culture, industry and design.

I went to Waldorf elementary and high school with a diploma from Aros Art School and I have a background in music, arts and software engineering as certified Microsoft MCP. I spent 9 years after finishing art school writing and producing music while situated in Denmark and later in France.
I've also been working as lighting technician at a theatre in Switzerland where I gained valuable insights about lighting and the fascinating world of theatre.
I later turned my attention to computer programming back in Denmark where I spent 7 years as software developer and IT entrepreneur while co-founding two successful software companies.

Following a career as commercial photographer in Berlin Germany, I now work from my "exile" in Scotland as an artist.
